The band was on Boston's club circuit and was directed by Frank Connelly their first manager. The band then began working with Steve Leber, David Krebs, New York managers. In 1972 they signed a record contract and released their debut album. It was immediately followed by Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic, Rocks and Draw the Line, which led Aerosmith to worldwide fame and recognition. These albums brought legendary hits such as "Dream on", Walk This Way, "Sweet Emotion" and "Walk This Way". Aerosmith's first five albums were multi-platinum. Toys in the Attic and Rocks were also multi-platinum. The band started to feel the effects of the fast-paced way of recording, touring and living in a community, as well as using drugs as the decade advanced. Tyler and Perry were often called the Toxic Twins, for their famed consumption of stimulants as well as heroin. Their relationship is documented in many of Aerosmith's video releases as well as in the Aerosmith Behind the Music. Tyler was more committed to Aerosmith than Perry and had a resentment of Perry for his passive attitude. Perry also admired his importance to females in his life. Aerosmith's gradual decline was probably because of the tension between Tyler and Perry and their once-friendly companions.
